The 2008 PGA Merchandise Show runs Jan. 17-19. All the latest and greatest weapons to aid the average golfer in attaining this year’s goals will be on point to. Then the ensuing ad blitzes will thrill our senses with tales of longer, straighter drives, more greens in regulation, radar putts, and more gallop than a White House press release.

Plus, how to look like Camilo Villegas despite a 42″ waist and an Avodart script. Money fuels the fire and golfers are a great demographic. We’ll belly up to the register more than most with a promise of shaving strokes or finally cracking the top 3 in the R flight of the club championship. Being an average golfer, who couldn’t handle an extra 20 yards off the tee or second shots from the fairway? Polish the Mastercard. We’ve all made the fall. I’ve had five drivers in five years. (Two of them I whittled myself.) It is true that a larger head, larger sweet spot, and proper inaugurate conditions will demonstrate better results. Today’s clubs, especially drivers, make the game noticeably easier, incrementally. Still, you with your clubs, Tiger with hickory shafts and balatas, for your house? You on? I would submit to you that the better bet is in another area.

The average golfer would see faster improvement with a little swing repair. How about some posture and ball position? Throw in a decent takeaway, some balance, weight transfer, and golly gee whiz, I just found out what a sweet area does! Now that I found that infamous slot, stopped coming from so far outside I had to clear customs, I can take my chiropractor off the 5 spot on my cell phone. I can hit advantageous shots consecutively, have my 2nd putt shorter than my first, and possess my own in the Sunday morning brag fest. All this with my old clubs. The clubs I was going retire to the garden to start tomatoes. I’m not advocating a ban on the sale of new gear. I’m merely suggesting that for the average golfer substantial, noticeable improvement can be made much faster and last much longer with lessons from a qualified PGA instructor. It’s not the “quick fix” promise of new sticks, but sticks are a fleeting lover. Just ask my current popular driver. The following is a satirical news story. None of its content should be read or taken literally.

In a move that has stunned both the sports world and the advertising world, Tiger Woods announced that he is legally changing his name to Buick Nike. This surprise disappear makes Woods the first celebrity to join the growing ranks of average people who have decided to trade their identity in exchange for a lucrative contract branding them as a product. However, even Tiger Woods admits that this step is more extreme than merely tattooing the name of a casino on your one’s back.

“Sure, this is a pretty big deal, but, you know, money is money and even if I win all four majors in a year that’s only what, a few million dollars? Besides, let’s face it guys, I already had a name that sounded more like a make out place for teenagers than a professional athlete,” Woods (Nike told reporters at a lavish party to voice the name change.

How are sports fans across the country responding to the news? One young fan had this to say after hearing the news. “Every time you see a NASCAR driver he’s covered all over with advertising and holding a Coke or Pepsi in his hand. Most of the time you can’t tell the difference between one driver and another. Buick Nike will always be Tiger Woods, no matter what calls himself.”

Scott Jeffers, Chairman of the anti-consumer group The Anti-Consumer Group, would probably be expected to protest that viewpoint, but rather surprisingly seems to support Woods’ (Nike’s) decision. “He’s been less a human being than a product ever since his father glued a golf club to his palm when he was still in his mother’s womb. I enlighten this is just Tiger’s dehumanization process coming beefy circle.”

Tiger Woods (Buick Nike) takes a quite different perspective on this particular aspect of his decision. “Look, this is good for golf and is superb for my fans. Now I can play in tournaments sponsored by Nissan and Toyota and other companies that actually make good marvelous cars you’d be proud to buy. Buick Nike will do more to make life more rewarding.”

Following Woods’ announcement, several rumors immediately surfaced on the internet that other golfers would follow suit. Among the rumors that have been officially confirmed as fraudulent are that Jack Nicklaus will change his name to Hypocrite Cartrider, that Phil Mickelson will change his name to Cheerful Alsoran. As of yet, there has been neither confirmation nor denial from Vijay Singh that he will change his name to Afraidta Playwithgirls.

Callaway FT-i 25th Anniversary Driver Review

The limited edition FT-i 25th Anniversary Edition is a limited quantity collectors driver. There will only be 2,500 made if you can win one and has been created in honor of Callaway Golf’s founder Ely Callaway. The driver will feature silver accents in the head shaft and grip and would make a great point to next to a new or refinished original Big Bertha driver. The specs of the club are the same as is the review, I would never hit one of these beauties, I simply wanted to let you know it was available if there are any die hard Callaway fans out there!

The FT-i came from two designs actually, along with a totally novel concept. The primitive Callaway C4 driver, a composite driver featured a metal skirting around the perimeter which helped drastically on off center hits. While this driver was extremely accurate, it lacked hitting power due to the softer face material. Callaway has long been known for its long hitting Titanium drivers and the consumer wanted both designers in one! Introduce the Fusion Series beginning with the original ERC Fusion to the FT-I, Callaways high performance drivers have incorporated Fusion Technology.

The FT-i features a larger head than the original Fusion and the FT-5. Oh, did I forget to mention that it is also square! This will raise the MOI and lower the center of gravity for straighter, higher launching shots! The advances in technology have allowed the designers at Callaway to “fuse” an entire face location of a Titanium driver to the body similar to the C4. This makes for not only a very forgiving driver, but one that goes long as well! The technology frees almost 50 grams of weight to be distributed to the perimeter to create a high launch low spin driver designed for todays golf balls. Callaway has also incorporated a new feature where this weight is put in the center of the club, to the toe or to the heel. This will created a fade or draw biased head that will be more prone to opening or closing at impact to help cleave or create a different ball flight for the player.

When I got a chance to hit this driver I was impressed. It was a slight difficult to look at with its long, square head and closed face, but I had to keep an open mind. After I hit a few balls with this ugly duckling, I noticed one thing, the ball went high and straight as advertised and had more carry than any other driver I had tried, but that was it. A high straight ball, no roll to speak of really, it just went up and landed like a hot air balloon. I am not complaining, I was just surprised, Callaway is always good at making clubs that hit the ball a mile, but the FT-i is designed to hit fairways first. I was testing the 9* Stiff version and also got to hit their new tour model. The tour model features a higher center of gravity, square to open face with neutral to fade weighting. This allows the better player to work the ball better and really get through the ball without the dismay of hitting a big hook! I was able to work the ball with both, but had a better time hitting a draw with the standard version and a better time hitting a fade with the tour version for obvious reasons, but there are a couple pros on tour including Ernie Els using this driver!

Given the new tour model, better players can give this a try as well. While it is not the longest driver, it is the straightest!

The Golf Slice is a Common Problem in the Game of Golf

One of the most well-liked causes for a higher than desired golf score is the slice shot. This is a problem mainly for beginner golfers, but serene exists among the seasoned players as well.

The slice is when the golf ball’s flight pattern curves from left to upright, unless you are a left-handed player. Then the flight path would go from right to left.

The spin of the ball off of club impact determines the flight of the ball. When the golf ball is spinning clockwise it will cause the flight to travel in a clockwise arch.

On some golf shots, adding spin to the ball can be a safe thing. When it happens every time you swing the golf club, with no control on your part, that is unpleasant. There are several reasons that can cause you to slice the ball when you take a swing.

Lifting your head when you are making contact with the ball can cause a slice. When you lift your head, you are causing the club face to come across the ball instead of hitting straight through the ball. What you are actually doing is striking the ball from the outside to the inside causing a clockwise spinning of the ball.

If it is common that you tend to bewitch your head when swinging the golf club, remind yourself to keep your head down and your eyes on the ball through the shot. Practice this over and over until it becomes habit. This will allow you to hit through the ball straight and cause the ball to waft in a straight path. Keeping your shoulders in a strong, solid alignment during this process will also relieve matters.

Another common reason why you will slice the ball is trying to hit the ball as hard as humanly possible. Swinging the golf club that hard can cause your arms to pull the club in towards your body during impact, causing the ball to spin clockwise and nick to the suitable.

You can work on this cause by swinging softer and letting the golf club do all the work. Golf clubs are built with incredible technology in today’s market and you do not have to swing with all your might to develop a good golf shot.

Playing for accuracy instead of swinging for distance will put your ball in a better space for your next shot more times than not. Throughout the course of 18 holes, you can shave quite a few strokes off of your game unbiased by being more accurate on your shots.

Once you start hitting the ball straight on a regular basis with no signs of a slice, then you can start trying to add a little distance to your swing. Try this advice and you will see an improvement in your score.

A better golf swing is inevitable for any golfer, with the right reach. It doesn’t matter age or ability. It’s a reality and can happen very quickly! To achieve a better golf swing, a golfer needs to realize just how physically demanding it is on the human body. You are swing an object (golf club) at up to 100 mph. This puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles.If these tissues of the body are weak, tight or brittle they will fracture and eliminate you from playing golf indefinitely. If it doesn’t, your performance will pay the notice.

The outcome either way is not what you want but will happen without an emphasis on strengthening these areas. Along with strengthening comes stretching. Stretching muscles to carry out a better golf swing is common among most golfers. Although it is common, most golfers don’t stretch. Why? Because it is viewed as ‘work’. But if it were viewed as a form of golf improvement it would be a different story. Swing mechanics cannot be improved if your golf specific strength and flexibility are ignored.

It is an impossibility, unless you compensate for this lack of capabilities in your golf swing. Teaching pros are now starting to realize there is a definite connection between golf swing mechanics and fitness. But that’s where the Tremendous gap is. Between instruction and physical fitness. This is the ultimate combination for total golf performance and I have been preaching it for several years now. When your physical capabilities are improved, your golf swing mechanics become much easier to achieve.

The next time you visit your teaching pro, to achieve a better golf swing, you’ll be able to do what he/she wants and the desired outcome will be achieved. This outcome is inevitable when you get your body moving better. Your golf swing mechanics fall into place. It will only be a matter of time when all golfers will approach their golf improvement this way. It’s the only way that will warrant lasting results and ultimately a better golf swing.

The first game of golf I ever played with some school friends many moons ago, needless to say, I had no golf swing to deny of, had never held a putter in my hands and I had no golf clubs either, so I had to hire a set of old mixed golf clubs from the local pro shop, I walked out onto the first hole and teed the ball as high as I as could, I hit that ball as hard as I could humanly possible. That ball must have flown all off about twenty yards.

None of my friends gave me any tips on how a golf swing should spy like. Hitting the ball mostly with a lot off wrist action, I managed to hit at least three or four relatively good shots for the day. Watching that ball fly through the air got me completely curved on the game that day. Hooked on the drug called golf.

Definitely one of the better drugs to be hooked on, I went on and nagged my mom to retract me a set of clubs. I played many golf games after that with no apt golf instruction to help me with my golf swing. I spend many hours on the practice range. I managed to gain a bit more distance and hitting the ball more accurately but I also developed that dreaded curse all golfers know about, the golf slice.

Playing golf became more of a frustration for me than enjoyment. Many years later, it took me months and a lot of money in the local pro’s wallet to eventually cure my golf swing problems.

The bottom line here is, don’t begin of playing golf like I did. Read some well-known books or if you can afford it get you local pro ” the one with the big wallet” to help you out, to your golfing happiness. Get help from the start to make a solid grand golf swing.

Golf can be the perfect family game. Hey man don’t leave your wife and kids at home, get them interested in this fascinating game. This game will get your son to forget about that PS2 or X Box, and that dodgy girlfriend with all her tattoos. Play golf. Get your golf swing working.

These harder materials increase distance and ‘feel’, allowing for better distance and pinpoint accuracy.

Advanced or expert players – or, simply consumers with the cash to exercise – can consider getting their clubs custom-fitted at a sporting goods store or the pro shop of a local golf course. A trained professional can analyze your build, your size, and your swing to acquire the perfect set of clubs for you – based not only on the factors above, but additional adjustments to the club head and grip.

Much of the boom in the golf manufacturing industry has been related to the advanced technology used in developing unique golf clubs, and the benefits that newer clubs can provide to golfers. Most of these advancements are tailored to the inexperienced golfer – the so-called “weekend duffer.” Perimeter weighting puts force AROUND the golf ball, increasing control when a swing is not absolutely perfect. 3. Most of the “advances” and trends in golf club manufacturing are aimed at average and below golfers. When possible, take advantage of them.

In short, when purchasing golf clubs, a consumer should look for the materials best suited to them, with the best technology available in their price range. If your passion for your golf, and/or your wallet, allow you to try for custom-fitted clubs geared to you, you should take advantage.
